Training Standards

Training standards for adult literacy volunteers have been developed by the Minnesota Department of Education. They outline the required pre-service and ongoing training requirements.

Math students are often unsure about how to tackle a problem or activity that looks unfamiliar. Often they will wait for the teacher or tutor to provide guidance. To develop more independent learning, Literacy Minnesota teacher Lindsey Pust created a reflection sheet that provides a roadmap for tackling math activities.

Starting off a vocabulary lesson by asking "Does anyone know what ________ means?" is generally a poor idea. It can lead some some awkward silences and some incorrect answers.
