Walking Questions

Purpose: To engage learners in speaking; this is a good speaking activity to use while you are waiting for latecomers to arrive.

Preparation time:  10-15 minutes

Materials:  Cut-up questions

Preparation: 

On a piece of paper, write out 10-15 questions that are suitable for your learners in terms of language ability and relevancy. Cut the questions up into strips and tape them up around the room.

Procedure:

1. As learners come into the room, tell them to walk around and read the questions.
2. Tell learners to pick one question to ask another learner in the class.
3. Give learners time to ask each other their questions and give answers.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 two or three times.

Variations:

You may choose to focus your questions on a particular grammatical structure or vocabulary theme.
