Tell Me Everything You Know

Purpose:  to help students access prior knowledge about a topic before reading or writing

Preparation Time:  none

Materials Needed:  none

Procedure: 

Before reading a text, work with students to establish the topic.

Pair up students and have one student tell the other everything she/she can think of about the topic. Challenge them to speak nonstop for one minute.

Switch roles.

Variation:  Before reading, have the students tell you all the WORDS that might occur in the passage.
