Role Play with Key Vocabulary
Purpose: To practice key vocabulary in authentic conversation.
Materials: None.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Generate a list of vocabulary words to use in role play
Procedure: This activity can be done between tutor and student or with pairs of students.
1). Establish a situation, roles and function.
2) Share a list of words students should use during their role play.
3) Assign roles to students
4) Have students do the role play, encouraging them to use the target vocabulary in their dialog.
For example:
Situation, roles and function: In a grocery store. Customer and Clerk, Asking for information
Target Words:
Eggs, Cashier, Aisle 11, Dozen, Thank you, Excuse me, $4, Left, Right, Help, You’re welcome
Possible role play:
Student 1: Excuse me.
Student 2: How may I help you?
Student 1: Where are the eggs?
Student 2: They are in aisle 11.
Student 1: Thank you.
