Remember This?! Series: Mini Pronunciation Lessons for Improving Final Consonant Articulation
For this installment of the Remember This?! Series where we remember great resources for tutoring and teaching, let’s look at Mini Pronunciation Lessons for Improving Final Consonant Articulation created in 2014 by now-PhD candidate, Suzanne McCurdy.
If you work with speakers of Hmong, Karen or Karenni at any level of ESL, you may have heard them say things like “Cuh Foo” rather than “Cub Foods” or “how” rather than “house.” Learners can be more easily understood if they are able to articulate the final consonants in these words.
Mini Pronunciation Lessons for Improving Final Consonant Articulation is a great resource for giving students practice with these final sounds. It features seven simple lessons with three repeated activities that address three final consonant sounds each. Watch this three-minute video of the creator, Suzanne, doing one of these lessons with learners to get a clear picture of how they work and then try one yourself!
