A picture can inspire a thousand words!

Pictures are a great way to get learners engaged and speaking. All you need to do is ask the right questions! Share a picture at the beginning of your tutoring session or online class and ask the learner/s questions about what they see. Be prepared to ask follow up questions that encourage them to explain their answers. Want learners to interact? Encourage learners to ask one another follow-up questions, or paraphrase each other’s answers.

What do you see in this picture? What colors? How many?

What is happening in this picture? Why do you think that is happening?

How do the people in this picture feel? Why do you think that?

What do you think the people in this picture are saying? Why?

What do you think happened before this picture? What happened after this picture?

How does this picture make you feel? Why?

Have you ever seen/done/experienced anything like this picture? What happened?

What is your favorite part of this picture? Why?

What don’t you like about this picture? Why?
