Many ESL learners want to improve their conversation skills, and one-on-one or small group remote tutoring is the perfect opportunity for tutors and learners to dig into speaking about a topic!

Here are three websites where tutors can find a wealth of discussion questions that were created with adult English learners in mind. Tutors can search the websites to find conversation questions that are grouped by topic, and adjust the level of the questions up or down to match the needs of their learners. Let the conversations begin!

  1. Print Discuss This relatively new website contains printable lists of conversation questions arranged by topic or grammar point. Most conversation lists contain simple warm-up questions and a vocabulary word list.
  2. ESL Conversation Questions Find conversation questions grouped by topic or by grammar point. The site also contains ideas for icebreakers and additional online resources for teachers.
  3. Conversation Questions for the ESL/EFL Classroom This site contains well over a hundred conversation topics that cover a wide range of interests, with 10-100 questions per topic. This is a great place to get ideas for conversations.
