iCivics Education: A Free Teaching Resource
With the presidential campaign firing up, adult education learners will be thinking and talking about politics and government more. A great, non-partisan resource for teachers and volunteers to help them with that is iCivics Education. It’s a free website that features lesson plans, simulations and games to help students learn about the branches of government, elections and US history. It is designed for use with kids, but many materials are appropriate or can be adapted for use with adults. Here are a few sample items:
- Lesson Plans: The Public Sphere, Political Debate Guide, Candidate Report Card and Slavery: No Freedom, No Rights
- Simulations: Student Free Speech: Ben Brewer vs. Hamilton High School and Student Due Process: Jamie Johnson vs. Marshall High School
- Games: Win the Whitehouse, Executive Command, Immigration Nation and Do I Have a Right?
You have to create a free account to access the resources, but it just takes a moment and it’s worth it for these high quality materials.
