Comprehension Interview

Purpose: To informally assess a student's reading habits and their familiarity with a variety of reading-for-comprehension strategies. 

Materials: Comprehension Interview form.

Preparation: Print out the interview form.

Procedure: 

As part of the initial reading comprehension assessment (or whenever seems appropriate) work through the interview form with the student. It can be read to them or they can read it independently.

After completing the form, you may wish to ask some additional questions about what comprehension challenges they feel they have and what other reading strategies they use to understand a text.
